The Daylight War

Unlike the mostly Krasia-centric focus of the previous book, this book pays attention to both Thesa and Krasia . The worldbuilding continues to hold my attention. The book unfolds its tale in a leisurely pace until the latter part where it builds in momentum and finishes with a strong one-two punch.
With the third book of the Demon Cycle series I get to to have a sense of what Brett is doing in terms of the big storytelling approach. "The Warded Man" was a good book but I couldn't shake that it was missing something. That something was more worldbuilding. This was addressed in the second book, "The Desert Spear", which went back to Krasia an really fleshed it out. At the same time the narrative was advanced with the introduction of Renna and the relationship between Jardir and Leesha, among other things.
This third book in the series, "The Daylight War", deepens our understanding of Krasia even more with a focus on Inevara. The story culminates in the inevitable meeting between Jardir and Arlen - ending it all with a whopper of a cliffhanger.
I'm really enjoying the series at this point, I just wish the storytelling was more concise. Do we really need this many pages to tell this story?
Several times during my read of "The Daylight War" it made me smile, I even had a fist pump moment courtesy of an event involving Abban - a satisfying revenge sequence.
Brett's approach of going over previous plots from a new angle really enriches the tale; this without sacrificing story progression since Brett advances the narrative with each book. It's a slow unrolling of an interesting story.
