Brave New World
Much to my surprise I actually want this view of the future - in all honesty, I do
Coming into Brave New World I had the idea that I was expected to have a negative opinion of the world it depicts - if not to outright recoil in horror.
Well that is not what happened. I find myself loving the concept and the details of this “brave new world”. I love its focus on happiness and contentment. I love its prioritizing stability and peace. I love Soma, that magic, bliss-inducing pill. I love that people are engineered to have a place in the world and to be happy in that place. I love this brave new word! I’d be a member of this world if I could. No more poverty, no more pressure, no more struggle. Alpha or Epsilon, I don’t care. Sign me up.
And that’s why I don’t understand the man they call Mr. Savage. I don’t understand why he is reacting the way he did and why he did all the things that he did. Why? Why? He’s the one insane person in this book.
This is a book that I’ve put off reading; thinking that I wouldn’t enjoy. But it turned out to be a great read.
